My relatively speedy 2nd Long Haul Recovery

Very POSITIVE post.

Sept 23rd while backpacking with my brother. I got covid for the 2nd time. Head-cold, low grade fever, and fatigue. After 2 weeks I thought I had escaped with just a mild case. Hiked 6.5 mi on Oct 14th. Backpacked 4 mi and 6 mi on Oct 16, 17. But the next day the wall of fatigue hit. The day after, WHAM, all my favorite long haul symptoms showed up: gut ache, nausea, headache, brain fog, anosmia, insomnia, etc. It was a scary time. For two weeks, I could barely get myself into the shower. Averaged just 250 steps per day. I would say that I was worse off than at any point in my April to August long haul.

Well, in my first long haul, 8 hr a day time-restricted eating had been very beneficial. But the viral infection had made me ravenous. I couldn’t even do that. Instead I took 800 mg Quercitin w 22mg Zinc, plus 300 mg Resveratrol to attempt to trigger autophagy on Oct 29th and 30th. The night of the 29th, I felt inflammation in my right kidney and my gut ache and headache felt worse too. Several days later, I was feeling more energetic, my headaches had gone and my gut ache had improved. Fast forward to Nov 12, 13. I took 2 capsules of Thorne ResveraCel on the 12th and 4 capsules on the 13th. ( I weigh 160 lb.) By 6 PM my gut ache was 3x worse. Ached all night long. I was thinking, what have I done this time??? Clearly, 4 capsules was too much, 3 would have been a better dosage. But the next day, my gut ache was back to normal, just different in tone. Fell asleep watching the Master’s golf tournament. Went to the bathroom and my pee was BROWN! Drank lots of water and was fine after that. Well today is Nov 19th. So a total of 5 full recovery days after my ResveraCel experiment. I feel great!! Last night I slept like a baby for 8 hrs. : ) By far my best sleep in a month. And just got back from a scenic hike with a friend. Encountered a 1/2 curl Bighorn ram. We were having so much fun that we ended up hiking 6.6 miles… much further than I had planned. And best part… I feel like I could go repeat the hike right now with no problem. So exactly one month into my second covid long haul, I am feeling about 85 to 90% recovered. Still a bit weak.. but getting stronger every week!

Update, on Dec 23rd – 8 weeks after I started inducing autophagy, I am on the long-tail of recovery. Other than some insomnia, I am mostly free of symptoms. However, when I induce autophagy, I still get a gut ache and a bit of a headache. That implies that there are still some viral proteins in my small intestine and brain.

I hope to be fully recovered.. 100% in another month or two. That means able to do strenuous physical exercise and no gut ache after induction of autophagy.
